Happy Thanksgiving!

Eat to live, not live to eat!

Let's Talk about oils

The most healthful oils are Canola and Olive oils because of their high unsaturated fat content. Canola oil offer Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. Olive oil and EVOO comes from pressing of olives. EVOO is more expensive and is used for dressings. Regular olive oil can be used for most cooking uses. Soybean oil is inexpensive and has a high smoke point. Sunflower oil is rich in vitamin E protecting it from rancidity. Cottonseed oil has more saturated fatty acids than most oils-be leery. Grape seed oil has the highest smoke points. It's expensive and used by chefs for very hot searing of foods. Grape seed oil is rich in linoleic and oleic acid and has a slight grape flavor. Nut oils are typically used for drizzles and finishing foods rather than cooked in foods. They are expensive. Tropical oils are highly saturated. Tropical oils are your coconut, Palm, and palm kernel oils. Most are used in Africa and parts of Asia where they are needed for extra calories. Some research shows some health benefits of coc ur oil.

Happy National Nutrition Month!

Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day! When you use a Rainbow as a nutritional guide you are ensuring that your family are benefiting from a wide spectrum of vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are provided by each color group. Eating all five color groups every day is an excellent way to keep you and your family healthy and feeling their best! Why should you eat a rainbow? • Phytonutrients are natural chemical compounds found in all plants. They protect against disease and promote health in plants and humans. • Phytonutrients in fruits and vegetables give them their different colors and help to keep our bodies healthy. Each color group is packed with special vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that keep you and your family thriving. • The bright colors signify the different phytonutrients that each fruit or vegetable contains, therefore using the rainbow as a guide is a great way to ensure the widest range of phytonutrients and nutrients in your diet. • Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables gives you the energy your body needs to grow, learn, play, thrive and repair. • A colorful diet is one of the best defenses against chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, and cancer. So what color does what? Red-Heart healthy and gives strength support to our joints. Orange- Great source of vitamin C and it keeps our eyes healthy. Yellow- Good for the skin and digestive system. Green- Strengthens our immune system. Purple- Purple and blue foods are great for our brains. They help with memory loss, and may also keep some cancers away. Here are a list of fruits and vegetables in each color group: Red Orange Yellow Green Purple Apple Carrot Squash Lime Plum Tomatoes Yam Lemon Spinach Grapes Watermelon Sweet Potato Papaya Collard Berries Red Pepper Oranges Yellow pepper Kale Eggplant Guava Mango Corn Grapes Cabbage

Brown Sugar and honey scrub

There are sooo many different ways to make this scrub. Some people add vanilla extract to it, other oils, and some add other scents to it. Well, me, i just want to KISS (keep it simple stupid). In the scrub I make, i use only 3 ingredients: honey, brown sugar, and olive oil.
Mix 2-3 tablespoons of brown sugar and olive oil together. Add 1 tablespoon of honey. Keep adding honey until you have a gooey and slightly sticky mix. Apply to a clean face and gently scrub for 1-2 minutes concentrating on the rough patches. Wash scrub off with warm water and follow with a moisturizer This can be repeated once to twice a week for best results *The honey is a natural antibacterial, the oil is a moisturizer, and the brown sugar is the exfoliant.

Battle of the Eyebrow pencils.....

Okay, so I have had the pleasure to try out all three of these products. I typically buy M.A.C's spiked (b/c that's what i like), but wanted to find something that was comparable and cheaper. Lets get started with the Maybelline Define-a-brow (green):
Pros: It is small, thin, and partially retractable (retractable means that it goes up and down). It runs from about $5-6 Cons: Mechanically you press so hard that you break the tip off, and when you try to twist it, the product didn't come out. The formula is not soft, and the color was too light b/c they did not have a DARK BROWN. The darkest color they have is medium brown. I know previously they had dark brown but for some reason stopped selling it. Next, Maybelline Mastershape (brown): Pros: I love the waxiness of it. It keeps my eyebrows down and out the way all day. I love the spoolie brush b/c its small and very effective. It runs about $6-7 cons: The color payoff is horrible. It takes a couple of strokes to get color. Also, you don't get a lot of product in this item. Once the product gets down to the top of the plastic, there is no more. it isn't retractable or you can turn it to get more. What i would love is if Maybelline comes out with something that's the combination of these two products, that would be great! Final Item, M.A.C's Eyebrows crayon:
I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! Not because it's M.A.C, but b/c it is pretty much a combination of the two mentioned above. Although the wax isn't as thick as the Mastershape, it's perfect! You can turn the dial to get more product and it lasts a good while. Now this product sells for $15, which is obviously more than the two above, but I don't have to worry about the product being too hard or too waxy. I guess until I find a product that is comparable to this, I will continue to buy my Spiked.

DYK: egg substitutes are lower in fat, calories, & cholesterol.but...often higher in sodium. The flavor & color is different from regular eggs
DYK: the yolk of an egg has more protein (17.5%)than the white (11%)
DYK: prenatals beware of cured meats (processed) during pregnancy. They inhibit botulism that will make u sick.
DID YOU KNOW: physical activity of a animal does NOT increase tenderness.....
"Beating" meat is a physical change. This change makes meat soft....or "tenderizes" it.
Lets talk about food: Want to know how to tell if your eggs are fresh? If it is fresh it will be bumpy, if it is smooth, it will not be fresh.

57 Effective Ways to use Baking soda

Okay Ladies & Gents, for those of you who may know me, know that I like to save, or love to use coupons! That being said, I want to share with you all some very pertinent information I have learned. Now I know you have heard that you can use baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) for a lot of different household & cleaning uses; they even have a book on it! I'm here today to reveal these to you. Are you ready???? Well, here we go! First we will talk about how to:

Use baking soda in & around the kitchen, bathroom, house & for personal use

  • Use to scrub pots and pans
  • Stove top and counters
  • Mix four tablespoons of baking soda with a quart of warm water, and use it to clean the inside part of an oven
  • Wipe out fridge and leave a open box or bowl full to deodorize
  • Polish stainless steel and chrome
  • Cooking, many recipes call for baking soda
  • Cooking substitute, use baking soda mixed with cornstarch instead of baking powder
  • Soak fish or wild game before cooking to remove fishy smells and unwanted taste
  • Make your own sports drink mix with boiled water, salt and Kool-aid
  • Fluffier omelettes add ½ teaspoon for every 3 eggs
  • Wash fruits and vegetable with it
