  • Nail Polish- 1-2 years. If the color has separated from the oils in the bottle or it's tacky..throw it out!!!
  • Powder based makeup (includes eyeshadows, blush, powder foundations) 2-3 years b/c it doesn't contain water.

  • If you can't remember when you received or bought and item..discard it!
  • Temperature and climate play a role in how long your makeup last. Keep it in cool, dry places.

10 SANITARY Tips To Great Makeup & Makeup Application

1. Sterilize, Sterilize, Sterlize

2. If you are testing a lip product out at the counter, take a sample from the side with an applicator rather than from the top. This reduces your chances of of contracting viruses!

3. If you are SICK, use a cotton swab to apply eye and lip products, being careful not to double dip.

4. Please don't lick your lips befor applying lip products. This minimizes bacteria transfer.

5. When trying foundations, remember that powders are less welcoming to microorganisms than liquids and creams.

6. Your hands must ALSO be clean or you risk spreading germs to your skin AND makeup.

7. Dr. Wu suggests that you clean your brushes once per week!

8. Blowing excess makeup off your brushes can start a colony of GERMS!!!! YUCK!

9. For makeup products that have an expiration date...um....it's there for a reason!

10. AND FINALLY....DO NOT SHARE YOUR MAKEUP PRODUCTS WITH SOMEONE WHO IS SICK OR HAVE COLD SORES....AND IF YOU SHARE YOUR PRODUCTS MAKE SURE TO CLEAN & DISINFECT TOOLS!!!!!!

3 Common Blush Mistakes

1. Wrong Amount- use too much and you will look like a clown-unless that is the look you are going for. The ogal is to look as natural as possible. Gently flush, natural and NOT PAINTED!!!!

2. Wrong Color-The wrong color can make you look muddy. Darker skin use richer, deeper wines, and burgandies. Fair skin use cool, blue toned pinks, and olive skin  use warm or peach tones.

3. Wrong Placement-Don't use blush to contour! Put it on the apples of your cheeks!

Word of the Day

Today's word of the day is: ACCOUNTABILITY. What does it mean to you? Do you take accountability for your actions?

Tip of the day: This is how you manually calculate your BMI.
1.) figure out how much you weigh (in pounds).
2.) find out how tall you are (in inches).
3. Take your weight and divide it by your height twice and multiply by 703
4. Ex: if I weighed 135# and I am 61" tall, this is how it would look:

135
61=2.2131147 take 202131147
                                        61=0.0362805 X703=25.5

According to your answer of 25.5 you will fall under the overweight category.

BMI ranges- Underweight-<18.5
                       Normal weight 18.5-24.9
                       Overweight 25-29.9
                       Obesity 30 and greater.

Have a healthy day!!!

Tip of the Day

The food within affects your skin! Do you know your BMI? (Body Mass Index) Calculate it below. It will measure your body fatness. For those who are looking to lose weight, continue to track your BMI. It is a very good indicator of how much you have lost, and your goal of reaching a healthy BMI!

Manetane Beauty

Hello Everyone,

I had the pleasure of trying out this hair food from Manetane Beauty.

Pros:

  • Very light
  • Shea Butter based
  • Uses all natural ingredients
  • For Natural, or relaxed hair
This product ingredients state: all natural ingredients made with Shea butter, fresh sage, fresh rosemary, neem, argan, amla, and five additional natural oils to promote a healthy longer, silkier mane.

Okay, so I started using this hair food about January of this year (2011) and i have to say at that point my hair was still relaxed. Although it was relaxed, it made my hair shinier, and it seemed to make the relaxer last longer. I decided to go natural and since February of this year, I have not had a relaxer and I plan to continue this journey. I have noticed a couple of changes. First, my hair is a lot softer. Next, I don't have a lot of dandruff like i used to when i had a relaxer. 3. If you use this hair food as a hot oil treatment, it definitely gets rid of tangles! 4. It is NOT expensive like some other hair products.

Here is the website to order: www.manetanebeauty.com

MAC's Matchmaster Foundation

Pros:
  • It has spf 15.
  • It is buildable
  • Looks natural
  • Has translucent pigments to enable a finish that is influenced by the person's own skin undertone
  • a demi-matte finish
  • It's only $32.50
Cons:
  • Haven't found any yet.
I use a flat liquid foundation brush or a stippling brush (either Mary Kay or MAC). I use about 3-4 pumps b/c I have blemishes but not many and I want more of a sheer coverage. Have you tried it yet???
